Small Tank Update...

This 5.5 gal has been my most stable tank to date. I think it may be because it's the only tank that's not near the window. The other 2 tanks being so close to the window may be causing the water temperature in them to spike to uncomfortable levels for longer amounts of time. Hopefully with summer passing by this will be less of a problem.

Anyway, even though less fish are dying in this tank (just the sole cory habrosus), it's still rather algae-infected so I've been trying to combat it by overdosing with Flourish Excel. Been a bit over a week now. I think it's sorta working. Half the algae that was growing on the driftwood are gone but the rest of the tank is still infected. And I think the overdose is taking its toll on the plants too cause the sagitarria are getting yellow and thin. Will probably keep at it for another week and then cut back.

The fish are doing well though I believe. Added a female (about as definite as I can be, it's real drab in color and has a horizontal band running the length of the body from behind its eyes) honey gourami, 2 regular otos and a zebra oto. They all seem to be co-existing peacefully with the pre-existing honey, flamingo and sparkling gourami and 3 cory pygmaeus.

Medium Tank Update...

Things have been kinda weird in this 6 gal tank as well as I'm losing one guppy after another for no conceivable reason. At least with the 12 gal I saw signs of infection (fish losing balance, dropsy, etc.) but with this tank, I don't see anything abnormal until I find a dead fish. For the most part the guppies appear healthy, swimming around like crazy and eating. I've noticed that some (including the ones that have passed on) had these white splotches here and there on their skin though. Not sure if it's just abnormal skin patterning or some sort of fungus problem. It doesn't look like it's on top of the skin though, looks like the skin just lost it's color. I think there's only one guppy left in this tank with this problem but so far she's still acting fine.

Also lost one of the two young Japonica shrimp that I had introduced a week or so ago. Kinda surprising cause in my experience Japonica shrimp are usually pretty hardy. The remaining one seems to be doing ok still though.

Big Tank Update...

Getting my ass kicked in the 12 gal tank by some sort of internal bacterial infection that's taking down one fish after another. If it's not a swim bladder infection it's dropsy, so something is going on, just can't figure out what it is. Did a 50% water change last night and dosed with Melafix. Probably overdid it though (too much water changed out) cause the remaining German blue ram ain't looking too happy. Will probably have to remove the filter and clean it again cause the water flow is decreasing.

Also can't seem to get any plants to flourish in this tank. 13 watts in a 12 gal definitely isn't enough. May have to try to jury rig the damn hood to fit more light or just get rid of this tank completely... Eh, probably not till after we move.
