spew - what is it?

This is where I go to get things off my chest every now and then. For those of you familiar with my old rantings, this is basically the same thing, 'cept maybe a tad more risqué since I won't mince on cussing. ;-p But don't worry, I won't spit out shit for no reason. For those of you who've never been to my pages before, this section is here for me to make comments (mostly educated, sometimes not) about things that I've observed in my life and also just to keep my friends up to date with what I've been doing. Keep in mind that anything you read on here is pure opinion which might not jive with your own view of the world. If that's the case, friendly messages espousing your own views are welcome but flames will be cruelly mocked. So, without further ado.... > Current Spew

Nov. 2, 1999 - Singing with my mouth full!

Hi everybody. This past weekend, I did something that a lot of you probably would never have imagined I would do. Or maybe some of you did imagine it and only figured it was just a matter of time. That's right, I dressed up as Little Bo Peep and auctioned off my services to the highest bidder.

Relax, I'm just kidding. It'll be a hell of a lot longer before I get around to doing that. So, what was this amazing event you say? Well, I went to a KTV (that's karaoke to you Americans and "kroakie" to some Hawaiians (you know who you are =p)). Not that I've never been to a KTV before but this time was different. I was there for 4 hours. And this time I did more than just partake in the fine culinary delights offered by the in-house chefs (don't laugh, depending on which KTV you go to the food can be quite good. Moreso if you're starving like a hyena. But seriously, the "jou", aka congee, is usually pretty good.). I actually karaoked. Try not to picture it, you'll save precious brain cells and probably your sanity. Truthfully, it wasn't too bad. I just wish the selection of American music here was better. I must've scoured the songbook 5 dozen times trying to find stuff that wouldn't be too embarrassing to mangle. Let me tell ya, Taiwanese folk just have no appreciation for good ol' 80's tunes. I mean, who wouldn't like a hearty rendition of "My Sharona" or "Who Can It Be Now"? They seemed to like Air Supply and Rick Springfield though for some reason. And they didn't have any Flock of Seagulls either. Bummer. ;-p Another thing that I learned was that unless you ARE Puff Daddy, Will Smith, or the Beastie Boys, you probably don't wanna try to karaoke to their stuff. But don't worry, I stayed clear away from Hanson's "Show Me the Love" and any Spice Girls release.

I did get a chance to barrel my way through a couple of Chinese songs too. The one song that I can sing the most words to being oddly (or aptly) named "I'm a Fish". The one good thing about singing Chinese songs is that you can at least see the actual music videos for the song as shown on MTV. As opposed to the English songs where usually you get some European chick moving around seductively for you. Who the hell came up with these things anyway??? It's hard to sing when you just want to stare perplexed at what's going on onscreen. By the way, this doesn't mean that the next time you see me you can just drag me out to karaoke, or lock me in your apartment until I agree to sing for you on your home entertainment center (that means you, Fe). Ain't gonna happen. And believe you me, you'll be better off. I'm only looking out for your well-being. ;-p

Yesterday I saw a guy wearing a windbreaker that had a big pocket smack dab in the middle of the back. Somebody want to explain this one to me?
