So I've been tuning in to Air America for their first week on the air and it's been quite interesting. I wonder about the effectiveness of these radio talk shows though since it seems to me like it's just more preaching to the choir y'know? I mean I already know how blantantly deceptive the Bush administration is, listening to the specifics just makes me even more annoyed and puts me in a bad mood for the day. And I don't need that kind of aggravation.
It was a smart move to pair Franken with a co-host (Katherine Lanpher in this case) though. As amusing as he may be at times, I don't think Franken's really that great of a speaker. He doesn't have the charisma and persuasive forcefulness that's required for a political speaker which is unfortunate cause he does have the conviction for it. The afternoon show with Randi Rhodes on the other hand, is excellent. Sharp as a whip this one and entertaining to listen to. Definitely has the attitude of a radio talk show host. Her interview with Ralph Nader ended up with him hanging up on her after he couldn't get a word in edgewise when she started going off on how Americans can't afford to deal with his crap in the elections this year. Definitely worth a keeping an ear on.
Speaking of which, does anyone know of anyplace online that has nation-wide radio talk show ratings?
Also found a very good site that debunks the accusations and cross-accusations that'll be flying all over the place for the next 7 months.
