I've seen this article pop up in a lot of places lately. Hilarious.
Reactions? Should Asians be the only ones allowed to get tattoos of Asian characters?
My reaction: I do get annoyed when I see people with tattoos of Chinese characters who are patently ignorant of them. I hate the mentality that writing a word in Chinese characters gives it special significance. It's another form of the O-fetish.
But no, I don't think Asian characters should only be for Asians. On the other hand, I find nothing wrong with answering ignorance with spite!

I love the spite article. Especially the General Tso's chicken. Down here in Florida it's very common to see people with chinese/japanese tatoos. Especially the kiosks at the mall that do the temporary ones. But once in awhile i'll see somebody with a tatoo and ask them what it means. Then I'll tell them "Are you sure?" and make them think twice ;).

yeah, I guess I should note that the spite article is a satire... I think.
I just wanted to say just because I don't find anything wrong with non-Asians getting Asian tattoos, it doesn't mean I don't think the practice is Whitney McNally.

I do agree with you. I don't have a problem with non - Asians getting Asian tattoos either. But if you get it find out what it really means.

Heh. What a coincidence... Read that exact article last night. (Was trying to look up a japanese word and was too lazy to grab the dictionary)
Don't forget also that the same characters may be make sense in kanji may have a twisted meaning in hanzi, and vice versa.
